First of all, do not be hasty. Look at all the options before making a decision. Every school has a different concept for the homecoming event. Some of them keep a very formal dress code while the others encourage casual attire. Thus, you need to consider the requirements of your institution as well. To buy the right homecoming dress, you need to be well aware of the latest fashion. Have a look at what your friends are buying. In addition to that, keep an eye on what celebrities are wearing. This is because fashion is what celebrities wear.

If you school has a formal dress code, look at the dresses made of satin or silk. Your dress should have the right length. Formal Dresses are mostly gowns that fall below the knees. However, if you do not want to wear a gown, you can opt for a skirt or a short dress that is above the knees. The next step is picking the right color. You will notice that most of your class mates would be going for black or white. It is good to think differently. In my opinion, wearing printed dresses is not a good idea. This is because printed dresses do not look formal. Thus, select a shade for a nice looking single colored dress. You can always add a frill or a border of a different color so that the dress can look more colorful. However, do not select a very sharp shade for the frill. Go for something which matches with the base color of the dress. If you have a blue colored dress, use purple or light green for the frill.

One of the best ways is to select a theme for the event. You can decide among your friends to all dress up in dresses from the 70’s or the 30’s. This gives a very nice feel to the entire event and everyone goes home with something to tell.
