If my HS doesnt have a golf team, what are best options to learn golf and get good at it?
Let me share some knowledge here.
High school golf coaches are coaches first and teachers way, way, way second. It is not the job of a high school coach to teach someone from scratch how to play the sport. Some coaches are not very good teachers and some don’t have the time to focus on a player who has never played the sport.
Now just because your high school doesn’t offer golf does not mean you can’t play high school golf. Most state athletic commissions allow high school athletes to join another high school team under certain situations and restrictions. For example, a student attends a private high school that does not offer golf. That student may be allowed to play for the golf team of the public high school he would have attended if he had not attended private school. What is not allowed is “shopping” for a good high school golf team and joining it.
I suggest taking golf lessons to learn the basics adn then contact your state high school athletic commission and see if there is a way you can play. You probably can play for a different high school team or play as an individual at that school’s league championship and subsequent state tournament of you qualify.
